How We Can Help
Women’s Resources Services
Our services help and support women and their children and women without children who are being abused or have experienced abuse or domestic violence.
Abuse is when someone uses their power to control you and/or…
- Slaps, punches, pushes or kicks
- Threatens to hurt you
- Hides or keeps your identification such as your social insurance card
- Forces unwanted sex
- Controls the money
- Makes it difficult to see friends
- Uses hurtful name calling
- Is always right and cannot be contradicted
- Is frightening and unpredictable
- Is always jealous and suspicious
- Won’t let you have your passport (or other papers)
Violence against women comes in many forms and can happen to any woman regardless of age, race, education, or socioeconomic status. There are many forms of abuse including emotional/psychological, physical, sexual, financial and spiritual. Abusers often isolate women from their friends, family and community.

Outreach Counselling
Women’s Resources provides free and personal counselling for abused women. Sessions emphasize the effects of domestic violence on their everyday lives.
Our counsellors are fully open to discuss and provide invaluable information and resources to you on a variety of topics including healthy relationships, abusive relationships, learning and managing emotions, reducing stress, sexuality, goals setting, and anything else you may need to express.
Teen Counselling
Women’s Resources provides free and personal counseling services to teenagers of either gender, ages 12-18. Supportive counseling topics focus on experienced or witnessed abuse, such as bullying, sexual harassment, and parental issues.
Community Support Program
The Community Support Program efforts are to assist abused women with rebuilding their lives by formulating specific action plans and providing aid to successfully accomplish them.
In order to regain an independent and life free from abuse, women are provided numerous resources by our support counsellors. Some of these include housing, financial and legal aid, education and job training, and safety planning.
Our Goal is to Help Heal Women Who have Experienced Abuse

Support Groups
Women’s Resources provides numerous support groups for abused women in a completely safe environment. Post-assessment counselling equips women with techniques to reduce stress, form a healthy relationship, and become fully confident and in control of their life.
Child Witness Group Program
Unfortunately, a child is often a victim or a witness of domestic violence that can lead to behavioral, learning, physical, social and emotional distress. Our Child Support Groups offer a safe environment for children and youth to express their feelings, learn how to manage emotions, improve self-esteem, practice safety and conflict resolution.
Support is also available and advised for children’s caregivers in an effort to ensure that the practices are carried out at home.
Vicky’s Values
Vicky’s Values is Women’s Resources’ gently used clothing and household item store in Kawartha Lakes. They accept new and gently used clothing, accessories, household items and textiles during store hours (Monday – Saturday 10am – 4pm). All donations are greatly appreciated and proceeds from the store support Women’s Resources.
Public Speaking & Education
Education plays an important part in ending the cycle of violence against women and children.
Women’s Resources offers speakers to church groups, schools, youth clubs, other social service agencies and service organizations who are interested in learning more about the organization or about the issues related to violence against women and children. We also have a display board and resource materials which are available for information fairs. We request a minimum of three weeks notice before the speech or fair. If you would like a speaker to come out and talk to your group or you would like us to participate in an information fair, please contact Carolyn Fox, Fund Development Director at cfox@womensresourcesold.mydev.ca
