WR is Hiring!

Night Shift Shelter Counsellor – 6  month contract

36 hours every week (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night shifts from 11:30 pm to 7:45 am.)

 Women’s Resources currently has a six month contract position available in our emergency shelter for abused women and children. In this position you will be responsible for responding to crisis phone calls and intakes, ensuring facility security, cleaning, supporting women and children and administrative duties as required. This overnight position requires staff to remain awake during the shift.

  Skills & Knowledge

  • BSW or degree/certificate in psychology, human/Women studies, social services and a minimum of one year residential shelter experience
  • Addiction or mental heath experience, an asset
  • Thorough feminist analysis of violence against women and anti-oppression/anti-racism principles and ability to articulate this analysis
  • Proven assessment, crisis intervention and counselling skills
  • Ability to work in high risk, crisis environment
  • Must be a positive and strong team member and work well with coworkers as well work independently.
  • Demonstrated coaching, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Initiative, leadership and flexibility required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of residential health, safety including COVID and fire regulations
  • Current first aid/CPR, NVCI
  • Computer proficiency in Windows and WISH database applications
